Waterproof, fireproof, and bombproof ioSafe hard drives
1This is great, it would certainly help to have one of these bad boys at work. Right now, we backup every night, alternating between two hard drive enclosures that get stored in our firesafe. This would eliminate the need to switch the backup nightly and just keep it going backing up. Watch the video where IoSafe sets fire to a hard drive enclosure, spray it with a fire hose, drop it from 20 feet, and then drive over it with a backhoe. Needless to say, the data survives. (more…)

Redefining ‘Silent Killers’

Silent and Deadly comes to mind. blade-vortex interaction is the physical phenomenon that causes the ear piercing noise you hear when a helicopter is near. Eurocopter engineers have developed a new kind of rotor blade called Blue Edge that reduces the noise. The Federal Regulatory Energy Commission has granted Google Energy the right to behave like a utility. As of right now Google Energy can sell energy, capacity and services at market rates. It is scary how a single company has so much control over people’s lives. Just think about it, they have all the information about what you do online, what you buy, what you want to buy, they can read your emails, they have access to private documents, they can shut down your (virtual) life.
